J.S Giguere. Leafs #1 Goalie?

It looks like the Leafs have found there new goaltender. J.S Giguere has now proved himself to be Toronto’s number one goalie. With a big shutout in his debut as a maple leaf, he followed it up with another shut out in his second game being Toronto’s first ever goalie to record back to back shutouts in his first two games.

His first game as a Maple Leaf came on Tuesday February 2, 2010 where he blanked the New Jersey Devils 3-0 and became just the second Leaf goalie to record a shutout is his first game, the other was long time leaf goalie Ed Belfour. In this game Giguere proved himself as a top goalie in the NHL and hoping to grab #1 spot from the young Jonas Gustavsson.

Last night Giguere proved himself again shutting out the hot Ottawa Senators 5-0 in a big provincial rivalry. Giguere stopped all 30 shots he faced and is now 2-0 in a Toronto jersey. After sitting out Friday’s devastating loss to the Devils being up 3-1 with 5 minutes left and losing 4-3 they needed a spark, and Giguere gave them that.

I think the leafs have finally found a goaltender they can rely on and yet the young Jonas Gustavsson sit back watch and learn from a past Stanly Cup winner. I think the young goalie can learn a lot from him, helping him develop his confidence back from playing in front of a terrible defensive team such as the Leafs.

  1. Giguere should be the #1 goalie just because he is that good. YES he has won a stanley cup and also won the venzna without even winning the Stanley cup that year. He brings experience and enthusiasm to the team. Something the leafs have been lacking. Now for "The Monster" take a seat back and watch and learn because he is in a world of hurt giving up the game on Friday in the last 30 secs.
