Leafs 2009-2010 Overview

The Toronto Maple Leafs 2009-2010 season so far has been nothing but a struggle. They find themselves sitting out of a playoff spot for the 5th year in a row since the lock out season happened in 04/05 season.

In the off season preparing for the 2009 season the leafs added a number of players: Francois Beauchemin, Tyler Bozak, Garnet Exelby, Jonas Gustavsson, Christian Hanson, Phil Kessel, Mike Komisarek, Colton Orr, Wayne Primeau, Rickard Wallin, and Viktor Stalberg. In that they had to let go of some of the weaker ones that may have held them out of those playoffs spots over the years, the list includes: Boyd Devereaux, Martin Gerber, Ryan Hollweg, Curtis Joseph, Olaf Kolzig, Pavel Kubina, Brad May, Jaime Sifers, and Anton Stralman. As you can see in the list of players they got rid of, 3 of them were goaltenders.

With adding the likes of Phil Kessel and new and young goaltender Jonas Gustavsson, the leafs and leaf fans had high hopes for the 09/10 season. But 2 players can only do so much. The Toronto franchise found themselves losing 10 of there first 12 games and putting them dead last in the Eastern Conference. Toronto fans started to get restless and angry with there hockey club. The Leafs still have not figured out how and what they are doing wrong and still they find themselves sitting in dead last in the Eastern Conference with a record of 19-29-11 and 10 points out of a playoff spot.

With the likes of newly added players J.S Giguere and Dion Phaneuf, the leafs are looking for a late push for the playoffs.
